Hey everyone, Today, we’re diving into an exciting new feature from Hailuo AI – Subject References. This innovative tool allows content creators and AI filmmakers to generate consistent characters across multiple videos, solving a major challenge that no AI video software could handle perfectly until now. 🚀
In this video, I’ll review this feature with examples across different styles – from Pixar animation to realistic cinematics and even famous personalities like Messi and Trump. If you’re new here, I’m Gary, an expert in AI video content creation. Subscribe for more AI insights, and let’s explore this groundbreaking feature! 🎥✨

What Is Subject Reference in Hailuo AI? 🎭
The Subject Reference tool enables you to generate videos of a character using just one image and any prompt you choose. This is huge for AI content creators who need character consistency in storytelling, branding, or filmmaking.
To test it out, I created several reference images using Leonardo AI, primarily using portrait images across different genres. Then, I uploaded these images into Hailuo AI’s Subject Reference mode and tested different prompts to see how well the tool maintained character consistency.
First Test: Warrior Maiden in a Snowy Landscape ❄️
🎥 Prompt: “A warrior maiden in a blue outfit with fur accents stands calmly in a snowy landscape, her striking blue eyes reflecting strength. The camera zooms out, revealing her against the harsh wintry backdrop.”
✅ Result: The video output was stunning! The character’s resemblance was spot-on, and the video had a smooth, cinematic feel. The AI maintained high consistency and professional quality.

Second Test: Woman in a Grand Ancient Library 📚
🎥 Prompt: “A young woman stands in a grand ancient library, holding a book while warm sunlight filters through the windows. She glances at the camera, illuminated by the soft light.”
⚠️ Result: The video quality was solid, but minor facial distortions appeared. Despite that, the character resemblance was great, and the scene felt immersive.

Pixar-Style & Fantasy Animation Test 🧙♀️✨
🎥 Prompt: “A 3D Pixar-style girl wizard walking through a mystical alchemy lab.”
✅ Result: Character consistency was well maintained, but the quality was slightly lower than the original Leonardo AI-generated image.
I also tested classic fairy tale characters like Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. While character consistency remained good, the overall video quality dropped in scenes with many colors, sunlight, or distant characters. KLING AI still outperforms Hailuo AI in these complex scenarios.

Realism Test: Different Contexts & Cinematic Shots 🎞️
Next, I tested a series of high-quality cinematic scenes with the same character in various settings: ✅ A witch casting a spell in a dark forest. 🌙 ✅ A soldier in a battlefield, raising a sniper rifle. 🎯 ✅ A cyberpunk cityscape, neon lights glowing. 🌆
⚠️ Results:
- Great character consistency in most cases.
- Some distortion in high-light or complex shots (e.g., sunlight interfering with facial clarity).
- Cinematic realism was strong, but details like noses and lighting sometimes looked unnatural.

Fantasy, Futuristic, and Market Scene Test 🎨
I experimented with different aesthetics: ✅ Fantasy worlds with magical creatures. 🧝♂️ ✅ Dystopian adventures with gritty, dark visuals. 🌆 ✅ High-tech futuristic lighting & neon cyber themes. 💡 ✅ A vibrant desert marketplace full of energy. 🏜️
🎯 Hailuo AI performed best when the uploaded image was high quality and the prompt was simple. In about 85% of cases, the results were impressive, showing that the tool is reliable for consistent AI-generated storytelling.

Celebrity Test: Messi & Trump in AI Videos 🎭
To push the tool even further, I tested it on famous personalities:
Messi AI Videos: ⚽
1️⃣ Messi enjoying coffee at Starbucks. ☕ 2️⃣ Messi jogging and playing football. 🏃♂️⚽ 3️⃣ Messi transforming into Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. 🏴☠️
🎯 Results: Fun, highly recognizable character accuracy! AI captured his facial details & movements well.

Donald Trump AI Video: 🇺🇸
🎥 Prompt: “Trump at his presidential inauguration, raising a clenched fist while declaring, ‘Make America Great Again’.”
✅ Result: A surprisingly accurate and entertaining video!
🔍 Overall, the celebrity tests were among the most fun experiments, proving that Hailuo AI’s Subject Reference tool can be used for engaging, viral AI content.

Final Verdict: Should You Use Hailuo AI’s Subject Reference Feature? ⚡
✅ Pros:
- Best AI tool for consistent character generation. 🔥
- High-quality cinematic results in 85% of tests. 🎥
- Works well for different aesthetics (Pixar, realism, cyberpunk). 🎨
- Great for viral content & AI-generated celebrity videos. 👏
❌ Cons:
- Some distortion in highly complex scenes (e.g., extreme lighting effects).
- KLING AI still offers better video quality in certain scenarios.
- Some background & lighting inconsistencies in detailed environments.
🔔 Final Thoughts: Hailuo AI’s Subject Reference feature is a breakthrough tool for AI video creators. While it isn’t perfect yet, it significantly improves character consistency and is one of the best options for AI-driven video storytelling.
